Children's Programs Lead Facilitator

I have been involved with WinterSpring for the past 24 years. During those years I have had many different rolls from volunteer to staff to the board. I am currently the Lead Facilitator for the Children’s Program. I have seen firsthand the wonderful work that WinterSpring does. Broken people come for help and they find it. I have witnessed the healing, tears turn to laughter, loneliness turn into new friendships. I have learned from the most incredible people and worked with dedicated volunteers who each come with their own passion and gift to give. People giving of their time for no other reason than wanting to help grieving people. I have been blessed with so many beautiful friendships with the kids and their families and the volunteers and I have seen families heal as they move through the seasons of their grief. I feel so honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization.

Janine Twining

President, Board of Directors

Janine Twining (Board President) moved with her family to the Rogue Valley from Portland in 2015, and they happily now call Ashland home. She currently works as an Audio Describer for blind and visually impaired patrons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Janine sees her involvement with WinterSpring as a perfect way to honor the memory of her son Oliver who died in 2003, by supporting WinterSpring’s important work in the community, and utilizing her skills as former development and fundraising professional. Janine enjoys time with her family, travel, theatre, and all things Japanese. She also recently unearthed a passion for being a maker of things and enjoys creating in her home studio.

Cindy Parks Landis

Vice President, Board of Directors

Cindy Parks Landis (Vice-President) has a Masters in Nursing and undergraduate degrees in Nursing and Biology. She works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Ashland Family Practice. She worked at Ashland Community Hospital for almost 20 years as an ER nurse then as Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit. Cindy brings us her medical and management experience and a belief in the value of Winterspring. Her personal connection with Winterspring began with the loss of her husband in 2001. She participated in a Winterspring grief support and her two young girls went to the children’s program. Now that her girls have grown into adults she is now excited to give back to the organization.

Jim Titus

Treasurer, Board of Directors

Jim Titus (Treasurer) will tell you that WinterSpring saved his life after the death of his wife from cancer. He believes that: “Living with loss is the best fuel for awakening to our true humanity.” Jim will talk about grief and the depth of his learning with anyone who asks. He is a former professor and now that he’s ret
ired spends his time golfing, traveling, hiking and being a grandpa. He also facilitates groups.

Carolyn Schaffer

Secretary, Board of Directors

Carolyn Schaffer (Secretary) has worked as a hypnotherapist, Passion Test facilitator and community-builder. She guides clients to the answers and strengths they already have and may not be noticing in their current challenge. A published author, she is also writing a book about her husband’s dying experience. Carolyn loves to bring people together toward a common goal, which is a great skill for a board member!

Jan Murphy

Member, Board of Directors

Jan Murphy (Board Member) has been with WinterSpring since its inception. She knows the history and she knows the people in this valley, which is such a gift to the organization. Before retiring, she worked as the Office Manager at Douglas Snider, Architect. Jan is also active in the community, currently serving on the board of the Gordon Elwood Foundation.
